Margaret Harper:
A search for quality leads to an education legacy

Building upon a vision

Kiddie Academy franchisee Margaret Harper opened her first Kiddie Academy franchise in Oxon Hill, Maryland in March, 1997. Then, in 2006, she purchased a second location in Laurel, Maryland.  Margaret’s approach to her business can be summarized in one word…quality. A self-proclaimed over-achiever, Margaret strives to provide a positive experience for both the parents and the children who attend her Kiddie Academy locations.

When Margaret was looking for a franchise business opportunity, she was drawn to the idea of childcare because she remembered the difficulty of finding quality daycare for her daughter. Although she had a strong management background, Margaret did not have prior childcare or franchise experience. She chose Kiddie Academy because she felt the organization was a good fit with her own goals and shared her vision for providing quality childcare.

Now a seasoned professional, Margaret enjoys the flexibility she has as a Kiddie Academy franchisee. She’s also very glad she chose a business that operates Monday-Friday, unlike the coffee franchise she considered that would have meant long hours, seven days a week.

More importantly, Margaret is proud to add value to the communities that her academies serve, and cherishes the impact she has on the lives of children. She shared, “I’ve been a member of the Kiddie Academy family long enough that some of the children who attended my preschool are now going off to college. They still remember me, and I’ve been invited to several graduation ceremonies. It’s wonderful to know in your heart that you’ve contributed to the lives of children, and to your community.”

In 2012, Margaret Harper received the Founder’s Award during a presentation at the Kiddie Academy corporate office in Abingdon, MD. Margaret is also part of the President’s Circle, a distinguished group of franchisees that embody the best of the Kiddie Academy brand.

“Kiddie Academy had open arms and really embodied the motto of Community Begins Here.”
