VetFran Makes Buying a Kiddie Academy Franchise More Affordable for Veterans

Kiddie Academy® Educational Child Care is proud to show our appreciation to our nation’s military veterans by participating in the International Franchise Association’s strategic initiative, VetFran. The program is an option for United States citizens who are either currently serving in or who have been honorably discharged from the U.S. military. VetFran has a simple mission: To provide access and opportunities in franchising to veterans and their spouses.

“In valuing our veterans, we’re happy to participate in the VetFran program by offering a reduction of $25,000 on the initial franchising fee,” said Kiddie Academy Vice President of Finance Kevin Shaffer. “Veterans make great Kiddie Academy owners. If people know you in your community and know that you served, they’re more confident you’ll take good care of their children. The experience and commitment they’ve demonstrated works well with the sense of community we try to foster at Kiddie Academy.”

Ted Cockram, owner of Kiddie Academy of Longwood-Lake Mary in Central Florida is one of many franchisees who have been able to take advantage of VetFran. “I left the Navy in 1997 and was working in the corporate world for several years. In 2009, along with my wife Hilda and two small kids, I relocated from New Jersey to Florida. When we weren’t having any luck finding the same quality of child care we had in New Jersey, we decided to open our own. I dusted off an old business plan for a child care center that I’d written in college and we started to look at the options. Kiddie Academy showed itself to be a veteran-friendly company and that made a big difference in our decision to open a Kiddie Academy franchise. It’s a decision we knew was right since day one.

“I’d been able to use veterans’ benefits to buy a house and go back to school and get a degree. VetFran was another program that my military background allowed me to take advantage of, and as a first-time small business owner, any way to save money helps.”

Keep in mind that this is just one program available to prospective franchisees. The Kiddie Academy Finance Team can provide advice on what other financing options might be available to you, such as traditional third-party funding or using retirements funds to help pay for your franchise purchase.
